  • Curriculum Vision

Our curriculum is carefully designed to be progressive in both knowledge and skills, ensuring that children build on prior learning and deepen their understanding over time. At the heart of everything we plan, teach and learn are our core values: Love, Aspire, Curious and Belong. These values underpin our curriculum design and shape the experiences we provide for every child. We strive to create a learning environment where children feel valued and supported, are inspired to achieve their very best, develop a genuine curiosity about the world around them, and experience a strong sense of belonging within our school community.

In Geography and History, pupils follow a learning journey that enables them to acquire the knowledge needed to answer a meaningful 'big question'. In other foundation subjects, learning journeys are structured to develop subject-specific skills that culminate in a purposeful end product. These learning journeys help children understand what they have learned, why they are learning it, and how their knowledge and skills connect across the wider curriculum.

A central focus of our curriculum is the development of vocabulary and oracy. We believe that providing children with rich language experiences enables them to communicate confidently, think critically and articulate their ideas effectively. Explicit vocabulary instruction and purposeful opportunities for discussion, debate, questioning, presentation and collaborative learning are woven throughout all curriculum areas. Knowledge organisers support pupils in recalling previous learning, understanding key concepts and acquiring new subject-specific vocabulary. Both learning journeys and knowledge organisers are regularly referenced during lessons to strengthen understanding and support long-term retention.

We are committed to providing a curriculum rich in depth and designed to inspire curiosity. Children are encouraged to think deeply, make meaningful connections and apply their learning in a variety of contexts. Learning is brought to life through a wide range of educational visits and experiences, including local area walks, visits to places of historical, geographical and cultural significance, and trips further afield, including London. These opportunities broaden children's horizons, enhance cultural capital and provide memorable experiences that enrich classroom learning.

We further enhance our curriculum through visits from high-quality educationalists, specialists and experts who share their knowledge, skills and experiences with our pupils. These authentic learning opportunities deepen understanding, ignite curiosity, raise aspirations and support children in making meaningful connections between their learning and the wider world.

We believe that children should 'keep up, not catch up.' Therefore, our planning is responsive to pupils' progress within each lesson. This ensures that pupils with SEND, alongside any child who has not yet fully secured a skill or key knowledge, are supported to make progress and achieve success. Our feedback systems and medium-term planning demonstrate how misconceptions are identified and addressed, with ongoing assessment informing future teaching. We have also introduced our 3Ls approach across subjects to support memory retention and improve accessibility for all learners, particularly those with SEND.

Through our values of Love, Aspire, Curious and Belong, we aim to develop confident, knowledgeable and articulate learners who are ready for their next stage of education and equipped to make a positive contribution to the world around them.
